Ladies Fishing launch drive to raise £6,000 for Casting for Recovery charity

LADIES FISHING'S campaign to raise money for breast cancer charity Casting for Recovery is well under way with more than half of their £6,000 target already raised.

The ladies have organised events across the UK from fly dressing, salmon, trout and grayling fishing to stillwater events, aiming to raise £6,000 for Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland to allow an additional retreat to be held during 2011.

The following beginners to advanced ladies days have been organised to help Ladies Fishing hit their £6,000 target:

  • Fishing the exclusive Bolton Abbey waters on August 18 with lunch at the Devonshire Arms, tuition from AAPGAI instructors from beginners to advanced. Tuition/lunch/gift for £100 per lady (12 places only).

  • On August 21 Paul Procter and Paul Little will be at the Orvis store in Corbridge to dress the Casting for Recovery flies. The event will include casting demonstrations on double and single handed rods.

There will also be a fashion show featuring ladies' fishing attire from still to river events and the chance to enjoy a glass of wine and canapés with your husband/partner while chatting to the Josie and Sharon at Orvis and meet some of the ladies at Ladies Fishing.  This event is free

There will be more events across the UK to help the group reach their £6,000 target.

Any ladies - from complete beginners to advanced level anglers - wishing to attend the above events or would like more information on the group and the CFR campaign should contact  contact Anne Woodcock on annefishing@yahoo.co.uk  or www.ladiesfishing.co.uk or Trish Macdonald at trishmacdonald3795@googlemail.com

HELPING DEVELOP FRIENDSHIPS

LADIES  Fishing is a group of ladies who enjoy fishing. They are not a club so do not charge a membership fee,  they arrange trips and divide the cost between the number of women on the trip and there’s no commitment to attend regularly.

The group normally has six to 12 women per trip, keeping the numbers down ensures everyone gets the chance to have individual one to one tuition (if required), and there is equipment for women to use free of charge.

The group offers the opportunity to develop fishing friendships with other females, and understand that women juggle busy lives and have many commitments.

Not from our area but…

CONTINUING our reports from fisheries outside our area here is the latest from England international angler and owner of Seighford Lakes, Phil Dixon:

Weather conditions changing this week has helped the trout fishing at Seighford.

With fish moving all over the two lakes sport was sure to be on the up.

Young angler Mackenzie Smith, aged nine, from Stafford showed the way this week by catching his first-ever trout, weighing in at 7lb 4oz. He took the fish from the Swan Neck Pool onCdC fished on a floating line.

Geoff Henderson had an enjoyable day's sport on Saturday, landing five fish, the best at more than 6lb, off the Swan Neck Pool. He took all his fish on small emergers and CdCs.

Best fish this week at 7lb 9oz was caught by Paul Stott from the Swan Neck Pool on a fast retrieved orange lure fished on a floating line.

Best flies this week have been small dries, CdCs, small Hoppers and Klinkhammers.

Lure wise, black and green has continued to be a favourite along with orange and olive.

The lakes are open from 7am until dark (roughly 10.00-10.30pm).
And the following report has been received from Hanningfield Reservoir:

Despite the changing weather conditions anglers have enjoyed some great sport this week with the rod average climbing to more than three and some impressive catches have been recorded.

Tim Joyce had an exceptional week fishing catch and release when he landed 13 fish on Monday, following this up on Sunday with catch of 16 rainbows.

Most of the fish this week have been taken on traditional nymphs and a floating line, a Red Buzzer and Bloodworm patterns fished static under a bung have also produced good results.

The best fish reported this week - a fine 6lb 8oz rainbow - was landed by  John Clifford who landed another five to finish a memorable session.

The lower water level has helped anglers fishing the natural bank with Colin Neal netting a good rainbow of 5lb 8oz fish on Friday from this area.

A surprise roach of 1lb 3oz fell to a buzzer on Sunday and was carefully returned straight away.

Those anglers enjoying a day spinning have been taking more fish over the bubble lines including some larger grown on specimens of 3lb to 4lb.

A recent stocking of 3,000 fish this week should help boost catches further. However, good numbers of the fishery's larger resident fish have been taken from around the mole.
